Details for AWS command line interface (If the copy-pasted commands do not work, use this tool to remove unwanted characters)

Name:AWS command line interface
Version:1.19.41
OS:Linux
About:Provides command-line access to Amazon Web Services
Added:2/15/2018 11:38:07 AM
Updated:3/31/2021 12:00:15 PM
Link:https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cli/latest/userguide/cli-chap-welcome.html
Notes:

This tool is referred to as AWS CLI (version 1). The tool is run as follows:

/programs/AWS/bin/aws [options]

You can also pre-pend the location of the executable to your PATH

export PATH=/programs/AWS/bin:$PATH

You can then launch the program directly:

aws [options]

For detailed description of options, please refer to the manual https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cli/latest/reference

Before first use of the aws command, you should configure the tool by running (see https://docs.aws.amazon.com/cli/latest/userguide/cli-configure-quickstart.html for details)

/programs/AWS/bin/aws configure

This will result in creation of a directory called .aws (a subdirectory within your home directory) containing files config and credentials. In the simplest case, the first of these files will store the AWS region where your requests will be sent by default.The second file will contain a pair of access keys that the tool will use to authenticate you with your AWS resources (aws configure will ask you to enter this information). If you interact with multiple AWS accounts - for example, if a collaborator sends you a key pair for access to their S3 bucket - you can add that key pair to the credentials file under a certain profile name. The example credentials file below contains a default profile (typically, although not necessarily, the key pair in this profile would correspond to your own AWS account), plus another profile called collabs3:

[default]
aws_access_key_id = AKIBIQYXOANFH5UAMPLE
aws_secret_access_key = je7MtGbClwBF/2Zp9Utk/h3yCo8nvbEXAMPLEKEY

[collabs3]
aws_access_key_id = BCIAI44QH8DHBEXAMPLE
aws_secret_access_key = 8ePe0rThqIsDPpR9+AQc/2oSWqCWq+fB4EXAMPLE

When accessing AWS with a non-default profile, specify it in the command line using the --profile option, e.g.,

aws s3 ls awesome-bucket --profile collabs3

will list the content of the S3 bucket called awesome-bucket with access controled by key pair collabs3.
